McGregor Withdraws from UFC 303: Rogan Supports His Decision

Joe Rogan Backs McGregor’s Withdrawal

Renowned UFC commentator Joe Rogan has shown his support for Conor McGregor’s decision to withdraw from the main event of UFC 303 against Michael Chandler. McGregor (22-6 MMA, 10-4 UFC) suffered a broken pinky finger during training, preventing him from participating in the scheduled fight on Saturday at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

McGregor’s Injury and Withdrawal

Injury Details

McGregor, who already had a history of foot injuries, explained that the recent fracture in his pinky finger made it impossible for him to participate in UFC 303. The severity of the injury was such that he couldn’t even put on a shoe, leading to his withdrawal from the fight against Chandler (23-8 MMA, 2-3 UFC).

Joe Rogan’s Support

Rogan defended McGregor against criticism from other fighters, including his former rival Rafael dos Anjos, featherweight champion Ilia Topuria, and lightweight champion Islam Makhachev. “When you’re a guy who kicks as much as Conor, a broken finger is a serious problem. Plus, it’s the same foot where he broke his leg before. He had never withdrawn from a fight before. This is the first time, and I think it’s a prudent decision,” Rogan stated.

Reactions in the UFC Community

Criticism and Support

Several fighters took the opportunity to criticize McGregor for his withdrawal. However, Rogan emphasized the wisdom of the decision, highlighting the risks of aggravating the injury if McGregor had fought. “What if he throws a kick and the finger breaks again? He’d be in agony and unable to move. You have to be able to get out of Michael Chandler’s way.”

McGregor’s Future

Planned Return

Despite the withdrawal, McGregor made a public appearance over the weekend, cornering Sinead Kavanagh at the Bellator Champions Series in Dublin. The Irish fighter hopes to return to the octagon in August or September, depending on his recovery. UFC President Dana White declined to comment on McGregor’s return until he is fully recovered.

Conor McGregor’s withdrawal from UFC 303 has generated diverse reactions in the MMA community. While some fighters criticize his decision, figures like Joe Rogan support the Irish fighter’s prudence, emphasizing the importance of health and safety in such a demanding sport as MMA.
