NASCAR in Grant Park: July 6-7
NASCAR arrives at Grant Park with two days of non-stop racing and entertainment. Enjoy performances from top musical artists, Q&A sessions, interactive exhibits, and a special celebration of the 40th anniversary of Chicago house music. This event includes additional musical performances featuring legendary musicians from the city.
Preparations and Street Closures
The setup and teardown of the 2024 course will take 19 days, less than the 25 days in 2023. Starting Monday, July 1, closures will be implemented on DuSable Lake Shore Drive. Complete closures will occur on July 6 and 7.
Closures starting July 1:
- Columbus Dr. between Jackson Dr. and Roosevelt Rd.
- Jackson Dr. between Columbus Dr. and DuSable Lake Shore Dr.
- Congress Circle and entrances on Michigan Ave., Van Buren St., Harrison St.
- Roosevelt Rd. in both directions between Michigan Ave. and DuSable Lake Shore Dr.
- Michigan Ave. northbound between Roosevelt Rd. and Jackson Dr.
- Monroe St. between Columbus Dr. and DuSable Lake Shore Dr.
Closures on July 6 and 7:
- DuSable Lake Shore Dr. southbound from Randolph St. to McFetridge Dr.
- Michigan Ave. northbound from Roosevelt Rd. to Jackson Dr.
- Jackson Dr. from Michigan Ave. to DuSable Lake Shore Dr.
- Balbo Dr. from Michigan Ave. to DuSable Lake Shore Dr.
- Congress Circle from Harrison St. to Van Buren St.
- Indiana Ave. northbound from Roosevelt Rd. to 13th St.
Impact and Access
“As the track and viewing structures are assembled and dismantled, the City of Chicago and NASCAR officials are working to further minimize the impacts of street closures, parking restrictions, detours, and traffic,” mentioned the Chicago Office of Emergency Management and Communications. “All businesses and residences will remain accessible during the course setup, race weekend, and teardown.”
The race has moved the Taste of Chicago festival to September. Below is a complete list of the closures that will occur.
Street Closures Already in Effect
Starting June 10:
- Ida B. Wells Dr. between Michigan Ave. and Columbus Dr.
- Congress Circle northbound.
- Columbus Dr. between Jackson Dr. and Roosevelt Rd.
Streets Open with Local Access Only
The following streets will be open only to residents, businesses, and their employees:
- Michigan Ave. southbound from Monroe St. to Jackson Dr.
- 8th St. from Wabash Ave. to Michigan Ave.
- Monroe St. from Michigan Ave. to Columbus Dr.
Alternative Routes Available
- DuSable Lake Shore Dr. northbound from South Shore Dr. to the I-55 junction.
- Dan Ryan Expressway (I-90/94) and Kennedy Expressway (I-90/94) in both directions.
- Stevenson Expressway (I-55) in both directions.
